Voters Approve Bond Propositions

The New Caney ISD Board of Trustees officially approved a resolution canvassing the official returns of the district’s bond election at its regular meeting May 15. Voters approved both propositions on the ballot, May 6, in the amount of $695 million to fund new school construction, facility improvements, and land acquisition. Proposition A was approved by approximately 61% of voters while Proposition B was approved by approximately 58% of voters.

“We are very thankful for those who participated in the bond election,” Superintendent Matt Calvert said. “On behalf of New Caney ISD and the Board of Trustees, thank you to our community for your continued support of public education and this great school district. New Caney ISD will quickly begin to implement this bond program as we work to meet the educational needs of our dynamic, rapidly growing community.”

Work will begin during the summer and fall of 2023 on the first projects with the second phase of West Fork High School being a top priority. Also among the first projects to begin will be elementary school #12 in The Highlands subdivision, a replacement campus for New Caney Elementary School, and the relocation of New Caney High School’s baseball and softball facilities.

“The New Caney ISD community has a long tradition of supporting its public schools,” Calvert said. “We take very seriously the commitment the voters have made in this election and the responsibility that comes along with that commitment.”
