Bond Program Update: Highlands Middle School Takes Shape as Crossroads Elementary Moves Forward

Construction continues to advance across New Caney ISD as the district’s bond program delivers new facilities and improvements to support students and staff.

At Highlands Middle School, construction is progressing as crews finish the exterior brickwork and install sheetrock on interior walls. The new middle school is scheduled to open for the 2027-28 school year. Meanwhile, Crossroads Elementary, the district’s 13th elementary school, is moving toward construction. The project bid on October 13, with demolition of the former Porter Elementary School on Ford Road expected to begin in November. Once complete, Crossroads Elementary will be the district’s first two-story elementary school and is scheduled to be ready for the 2028-29 school year.

At New Caney High School, the junior varsity stadium and football and soccer fieldhouse are complete, with work wrapping up on field events and a natural-grass practice field.

Construction is advancing at the district’s new administration building, where permanent power and water connections are nearing completion. Sheetrock installation is approximately 60% complete, and flooring installation is beginning.

At the current transportation center, steel is now in place for the Operations Building. Once completed, the facility will bring maintenance, operations, custodial services, transportation, and food service together under one roof. The project will also include a district warehouse and maintenance shops.

At Porter High School, the first phase of stadium improvements is complete, giving all three district high schools a turf stadium on their campuses. Work has begun installing turf on the baseball and softball fields and adding a covered practice facility. The third phase, which remains in design, will include a new band hall and dance facility, along with a significant Career and Technical Education (CTE) expansion. Construction is expected to begin in spring 2027.

An expansion of the Ag Science program, including a covered, open-air arena and a new building wing, is in design, with construction expected to begin in spring 2027.
