Board approves design, construction contracts

The New Caney ISD Board of Trustees approved two items related to the 2015 bond referendum at its regular monthly meeting Sept. 21. The Board approved awarding the contract for design/construction delivery method to VLK Architects for renovation work at Kings Manor Elementary. Also, the Board approved a construction contract with Purcell Construction for the proposed field house at White Oak Middle School. Construction at White Oak is scheduled to begin during the fall semester.

The design phase of the district natatorium is proceeding as scheduled. Director of Facility Planning and Construction Richard Gates presented schematic designs of the natatorium to the Board at the September meeting. Design is scheduled to be completed in the fall with construction drawing beginning thereafter. The natatorium design phase is scheduled to be completed in the spring.

Design is nearing completion for Elementary #10 which is the school that will replace Aikin Elementary. Construction drawings are scheduled to begin during the fall semester. The design phase is on track to be completed early in 2016 with the beginning of construction planned for spring/summer 2016. Elementary #10 is scheduled to be complete during the summer of 2017 and open for students for the 2017-18 school-year.

Design is approximately 90 percent complete for the additions at Porter High School. Construction drawings will begin thereafter. PHS will be adding 20 classrooms and a career technology education facility. Finally, the last project associated with the 2012 bond referendum, expansion of the child nutrition facility, is underway and scheduled for completion in early 2016.
