UPDATES:

August, 2017 - New Caney ISD celebrated the opening of its newest campus, Dogwood Elementary, on August 23. The district held a ribbon cutting ceremony to unveil the new campus which was built on the site of the former Aikin Elementary School in Roman Forest. Flanked by the New Caney High School Bluebonnets and Superintendent Kenn Franklin along with school board members, Dogwood’s first principal Kerry Hamilton cut the ceremonial ribbon to grand applause marking the opening of the campus. Dogwood is the 10th elementary school for New Caney ISD.




July, 2017 - Construction of Dogwood Elementary is 99% complete with final clean up and furnishing underway. A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place on the campus August 22, and doors will open to students August 28. 






May, 2017 - Dogwood Elementary is approximately 85% complete overall. Work continues on interior finishes, including carpet, tile, painting, and plumbing fixtures. Also, the final site landscaping is in progress. 







April, 2017 - Photo update for Dogwood Elementary School, scheduled to open for the 2017-18 school year.





March, 2017 - Dogwood Elementary School is approximately 70% complete overall with much of the remaining work now focused on the interior, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work as well as painting, tiling and case work. 









February, 2017 - Photo update for Dogwood Elementary School, scheduled to open for the 2017-18 school year.








January, 2017 - Dogwood Elementary School, scheduled to open for the 2017-18 school year, is approximately 65% complete overall. While structural steel, roofing, and the exterior walls are nearly completion, interior work is approximately 40% complete.




October, 2016 - NCISD Director of Facility Planning and Construction Richard Gates reported to the Board that the foundation for Elementary School #10 is complete. The parking lot is nearing completion and structural steel installation is approximately 75% complete. Roofing work is 15% and the exterior walls are 5% complete. The school is approximately 22% complete overall.




September, 2016 - NCISD Director of Facility Planning and Construction Richard Gates reported to the Board of Trustees at its regular meeting in September that construction of Elementary School #10 is proceeding on schedule. The school is approximately 18% complete overall. The building foundation and parking lot are both nearing completion while work on the structural steel is approximately 40% complete. Builders will be starting the exterior framing and rough interior work this month.






August, 2016 - NCISD Director of Facility Planning and Construction Richard Gates reported to the Board at its regular August meeting that construction of Elementary School No. 10 is proceeding with 80% of the concrete slab complete, 80% of the parking lot complete, and 20% of the structural steel in place.



July, 2016 - NCISD Director of Facility Planning and Construction Richard Gates reported to the Board at its regular July meeting that construction of Elementary School No. 10 is 10% complete overall. Site utilities are about 70% complete and the first section of the concrete slab is down, representing about 20% of the building.




June, 2016 - NCISD Director of Facility Planning and Construction Richard Gates reported to the Board at its June regular meeting that work at the site of Elementary No. 10 includes excavation and the development of the building pad. The project is approximately 5% complete.




May, 2016 - NCISD Director of Facility Planning and Construction Richard Gates reported to the Board at its May regular meeting that demolition at the site of Elementary School #10 is complete.




April, 2016 - Demolition at the site of Aikin Elementary School began in April and is approximately 70% complete.





March, 2016 - The New Caney ISD Board of Trustees awarded a construction contract to Drymalla Construction Company at its March 2016 regular meeting for the construction of an elementary school located at the site of Aikin Elementary School. Asbestos remediation at the old school, a process required under the law prior to building demolition, has been completed.

January, 2016 - Construction drawings for Elementary School #10 are 98% complete. Construction bids are scheduled to go out in February, 2016.

October, 2015 - Director of Facility Planning and Construction Richard Gates reported to the Board of Trustees at its Oct. 19, 2015 meeting that the design phase for Elementary #10 continues with the beginning of construction documents. Construction documents set forth the detailed requirements for the construction of a building project. They consist of drawings and specifications. Drawings are the illustrative component of construction documents, whereas specifications are written requirements pertaining to building materials, equipment, and construction systems that outline the standards to be met in the construction of a project. 

September, 2015 - Director of Facility Planning and Construction Richard Gates reported to the Board of Trustees at its Sept. 21 meeting that design is nearing completion for Elementary #10 which is the school that will replace Aikin Elementary. Construction drawings are scheduled to begin during the fall semester. The design phase is on track to be completed early in 2016 with the beginning of construction planned for spring/summer 2016. Elementary #10 is scheduled to be complete during the summer of 2017 and open for students for the 2017-18 school-year.

June, 2015 - The construction of a new elementary school is planned to occur in the first phase of projects associated with the 2015 bond election. Project timeline dates are set for planning and project-management purposes and may be adjusted in response to changing circumstances as work progresses.
