Comprehensive High School #3 moves into design development phase

Design is underway for the district’s third comprehensive high school, part of the 2018 bond program approved by voters last May. The Board of Trustees awarded the architectural services contract to Stantec for the design of the new campus.

During the schematic design phase, nearing completion, the architects have been coordinating with district personnel groups to determine the project’s requirements and goals. This includes developing basic concepts about spatial relationships, programming needs, form and function, as well as researching jurisdictional regulations and requirements. NCISD guiding principles in school design seek learning environments that are modern, adaptable and collaborative, framed by student driven instruction supported by accessible and advanced tools of technology. The school will include a focus in Health Sciences in the Career and Technical Education curriculum, with clinical and hospital simulation labs and biomedical classrooms as well as opportunities for professional certification in health science areas.

The design development phase, the creation of a more detailed site plan, is scheduled to be complete in the summer of 2019 followed by work on construction documents which are scheduled to be complete in the spring of 2020. Construction of the new campus is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2020, and the school will open in August of 2022. The school will be located in the south end of New Caney ISD on Sorters-McLellan Road south of Lone Star College – Kingwood.
